Aquincum – the Roman city which preceded Budapest. This is one of things I like so much about “The Historian”. How the past underlies the present and reminds me of the John Connolly thrillers and his honeycombed world. There are also references to Marcus Aurelius possibly writing part of his “meditations” whilst at Aquincum.
